Dorna Sports: we do racing
Dorna Sports is the commercial rights holder of MotoGP™, the oldest motorsport World Championship in the world. Since its beginnings in 1949, the decades have seen it grow into what it is today: 19 Grands Prix across five continents and some of the closest racing on Earth; a truly global show.
MotoGP™, the premier class, is the world’s fastest motorcycle racing Championship, with 22 riders competing on prototype machinery in front of millions of fans both trackside and at home. Last season, more than 200 countries received live or same-day-delayed MotoGP™ programming, reaching over 400 million homes.
Three million people also flocked through the gates to watch the Grands Prix live at the track, with a number of events attracting over 200,000 fans across the weekend. From families in the grandstands to corporate guests and events, watching live is a unique experience and can even be a VIP experience. Corporate clients or individuals can enjoy a one-of-a-kind weekend at the MotoGP VIP Village™, the official and exclusive Corporate Hospitality programme of the MotoGP™ World Championship, which offers specially designed packages for each event.
There’s even more to a Grand Prix than the premier class track action and outright speed, too. The lower capacity classes – Moto2™ and Moto3™ – stage their own mythical battles every weekend, with the racing often even closer. The 250cc lightweight class is the entry point into the paddock for most young riders before they move into the 765cc Moto2™ World Championship, where they fight it out for more wins and podiums and, in many cases, the chance to move into MotoGP™.
In 2019, there was another exciting new addition to the paddock too: the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup. The one-make, all-electric series is a parallel path of competition and technology, pushing the boundaries of new energy and close racing. With four rounds in 2019, MotoE™ is set to expand once again next season, visiting new tracks and continuing to evolve and provide even more incredible racing for fans at the track and at home.
MotoGP™ also visits a new track next season: the KymiRing. A brand-new facility in Finland, the stunning track is set to bring Grand Prix motorcycle racing back to a country with an incredible history in motorsport. There are more incredible new events on the horizon too, with MotoGP™ reaching new heights – and destinations – year on year.
Dorna is also deeply invested in the future of motorcycle racing across the world. The Road to MotoGP™ programme aims to unearth and foster talent across the globe, giving young riders a chance to grow and learn their craft as they progress in their careers. The FIM CEV Repsol, the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, the British Talent Cup and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup are key initiatives in Dorna’s commitment to talent promotion, and the investment pays dividends. For 2020 there’s a new addition, too – the Northern Talent Cup, guiding the careers and progress of young riders from northern and central Europe. The Road to MotoGP™ has created Champions and is set to continue doing so for years to come, turning talent and promise into a path to the top.
The future of the sport can be found in every facet, from incredible in-house technological innovations like the OnBoard 360 degree cameras to Dorna’s commitment to talent promotion and discovery, but one thing is certain: the racing comes first. Creating the greatest show on Earth and reaching the largest audience go hand in hand, with Dorna Sports committed to making MotoGP™ better than it ever has been – every season.
